Elissa Sews Issue No. 9 Easter
We've got Easter dresses in here! A book from the library. And, Kate has cancer, but it is us that are truly sick.
Hello!
So happy you are here. Usually I publish every last Monday of the month but due to getting these photos this issue is delayed one week. I apologize! Thank you for opening and reading!
Reader Question
Alex asks how much choice my daughter’s have in the sewing process.
Answer: They love to look through the children’s patterns I have and they definitely pick things out from there. But, ultimately I am the one to make the decision. They picked out Christmas dress patterns but I directed them to the ones I wanted. ha! But, I ended up not having the manpower to make them. Seeing as the girls are at the ages for matching and fanciful dresses, I wanted to make Easter dresses since I couldn’t do Christmas.
The Patterns
Vintage all over the place! I love the big collar on the size 8 pattern, the scallops on the size 5 (desperately want to make this again), and sweetness on the size 2.
The Making
Please PLEASE notice the scallops in photo #1. The scallops didn’t turn out as prominently as I wanted. But, you see them, right? Second photo by my second daughter while I was watching Pride and Prejudice (the BBC version, soooooo good).
As usual, I get too excited to start and get to work that I don’t take many progress photos.
The Fabric
I bought the last 6 yards of this Rose Chiffon from The New Craft House. (the chiffon was a fraction of the price of this silk twill, but boy oh boy, it’s so pretty).
I bought cream taffeta from my local fabric shop as well as the pink/white trim.
The initial try on
This girl felt that this pose was absolutely necessary with this dress. I agree.
Oh look! This is the age for me to do these kinds of things. The sweetest. Do you peep the BONNET FOR BONNIE?! Alas, I made it too small. But, so cute.
The back of Bonnie’s dress where I have been practicing bow tying.
We did Easter photos!
Library Read
I spotted this book at the library on a display for women’s history. Never did I think about the women that created the study of home economics. Y’all, my mind is opening about the women who changed society from within the home. How women in science helped feed people during war and clothe society. I’m on a history kick.
The Princess of Wales
Dear Internet,
20 years ago if a public figure announced that they would take a few months off to recovery from a surgery, we would have taken that at face value. We would not have demanded to see her and conspire against that person creating false news. Had a photo appeared in our newspapers or news channels we wouldn’t have made such a fuss about edits.
What has happened to us over the last 20 years? This has nothing to do with the Royal family, but one thing I think about often is what transpired between 9/11 and the Jan 6th insurrection. On 9/11 an entire plane sacrificed themselves in order to save the Capitol and those inside. 20ish years later, our own citizens destroy the Capitol due to their personal demands. We have become a sick people.
If we can’t afford someone grace in recovery from a surgery; if we demand to know what is happening in someone’s personal life; if we create baseless rumors about someone; than it is us who is sick. I have seen some people blame the Palace for allowing things to get out of hand. But, I believe it was the media and the oversharing of rumors on social media.
Of course, I was crushed and shocked to listen to her announcement. I immediately thought of all Prince William has gone through and their young children. Like you, I am hoping and praying for the best outcome for her (and everyone affected by cancer!).
Thank you so much for being here!
xo, Elissa
The bonnets and easter dresses! Beautiful!!
Agreed...Jan 6th and the many riots before defaming building and torching police cars--all of it.... not limited to one parties agenda but all involved in the complete chaos. Best wishes to Kate's soon recovery!
LOVE THIS ALL OF IT
