Issue no. 21 Knitted Together on a Sleigh Ride
Sharing all of the photos from making my sleigh ride knit sweater! You'll get a bonus newsletter soon with some thoughts about being a stay-at-home parent.
Back in January I shared an unboxing video of a vintage knitting kit from 1990 (scroll to the bottom of the post).
My hyper-fixation to start this sweater set in in August. I knit up the back piece first, then pushed pause while I worked on fall sewing projects. After my NYC trip I came back to it with full force.
And, it is DONE!!
Try-on video:
Phew! I feel like I woke up from a knitting daze after doing this. I took it row by row and step by step, but the weaving in on the back was not for the faint of heart. I probably would have omitted the little white specks given how much weaving in each one required from me. But, it does add a “snowy” aspect to it. The sleigh ride scene was so fun to knit, but the wrong side was an disaster! Somehow I managed it all. But, it really was a lot to handle.
Once again, the power of 20 minutes here and there was the key to getting this accomplished. Below I am knitting while on the train to NYC, in a hospital bed (I’m fine), and at the playground.
That’s the beauty of knitting….you can bring it with you and it has really solved my problem of missing my sewing machine when I travel.
I finished piecing it all together on our drive back from Quebec City (which was magical).
I knit the large size and could’ve done the medium but I knit so tightly and wanted it oversized. It is *too* big but I’ve been wearing it and it just looks like a cozy Christmas sweater.
The yarn was so rough I thought this would be itchy…but it isn’t itchy at all! I’m don’t get it. Wool is amazing and I’m so happy with it.
Nice Internet Moments
This video was shown to me on instagram and it made me happy for a number of reasons. One was that she finally got the courage to say that she made her clothes!! About 30 seconds in was yelling at the screen for the photographer to ask if she made her sweater. This was a happy internet find.
I also super loved this “blessing of the stuffies” moment at this church. So fun and unexpected.
To prep for your bonus newsletter about trad-wife/SAHM/homemaking/etc I am sharing this most special Mr. Rogers clip.
Lastly, I shared a Hallmark-y Christmas movie last week. Sharing another movie find! This was random but I love these small Hollywood movies that focus on women in their 2nd or 3rd chapters. So, I recommend “The Meddler” Susan Sarandon is charming. This movie is charming! Loved it.
Thank you for opening and reading! -Elissa
